Homeowners Tree Program

Plant a Tree in Your Front Yard with

Fairfax Tree Stewards

For homeowners who want trees to beautify their property and improve the environment.

Why Plant a Tree?

  • Trees increase property value by 10-15%.
  • Homes with trees sell faster for higher prices than homes without trees.
  • One 25-ft. tree reduces annual heating  and cooling costs by 8 to 12%.
  •  Mature trees surrounding a home cool  the air in the summer by 5-10 degrees.
  • Trees remove air pollution, improving air quality and health.
  • Tree-lined streets are more attractive neighborhoods.

The Trees We Plant

  • Are native to Virginia;
  • Have trunks of about 1 inch diameter;
  • Are 6 ft. to 9 ft. tall;
  • Are canopy, understory, and evergreen trees.
  • See below for selection.

How it Works

FAIRFAX TREE STEWARDS WILL:

  • Come to your house to review the

  site and discuss the program;

  • Help select a tree suitable for the
    space and growing conditions;
  • Consider your preferences when
    choosing the tree;
  • Set a convenient planting date;
  • Deliver the tree to your yard and
    help you plant it;
  • Give you information on the care
    and maintenance of the tree; and
  • Visit you 6 months after planting
    to check on the health of your tree.

YOU, THE HOMEOWNER, WILL:

  • Submit an application;
  • Pay a $10 fee towards  program costs;
  •  Help in the tree planting, as you are able; and
  • Maintain the tree - water, weed, mulch, with our guidance.

How to Apply

Submit the fillable application; or

 download an application from our website and email it to trees@FairfaxTreeStewards.org; or

 scan the completed application and mail it to:

where it will be planted and there may NOT be an existing tree in your front yard.

  • Only 1 tree per applicant.
  • The tree must be in the front yard or side yard for corner houses.
  •  FTS must receive the $10 fee prior to  scheduling a planting date.
  • Although FTS plants trees only in the spring and fall, we accept applications   year around.
